Making IT Work for Women

The representation of women in some areas of science, like the life sciences, has increased in recent years, to near parity at lower levels (in the upper echelons women are still underrepresented in every area of science). But in some fields, like information technology, progress has been slow or worse. In recent years, (IT) there's been losing ground on the gender-diversity front. "According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the percentage of women in the IT profession today has dropped to 26.1% from 28.9% in 2001," notes this article from Computerworld. "And the future looks even worse: According to the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT), just 21% of computer science degrees go to women today, compared with 37% in 1985."

Computerworld interviews four successful women about their own experiences in IT. Read it here.
