Next Chapter for Zerhouni

(source NIH)Elias Zerhouni, the radiologist-researcher who ran the U.S. National Institutes of Health for 6 years until he stepped down in October, is joining the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a senior fellow in its global health program. Although generally well-regarded for his leadership by scientists, he was not notably involved in the international policy battles—involving birth control, abortion, and travel to AIDS meetings—that rumbled through the early years of the George W. Bush Administration.
