COPENHAGEN—Overheard here as the climate conference wraps up:

Yale University announces that Rajendra Pachauri, head of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, will lead the school's new Climate and Energy Institute.

The University of East Anglia announces that it's putting together an institute to assess various geoengineering schemes. Climate scientist Tim Lenton, who will lead the effort, told ScienceInsider that he "doesn't want the effort to advocate for any one proposal but rather provide a needed evaluation," including scientific, engineering, geopolitical, and economic grounds.

Rare good news, caveated: A British scientist says his model shows that previous thinking that 3°C of warming is sufficient to melt the West Antarctic Ice Sheet is wrong; he puts the figure at 8°.

A Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit creates an impacts and adaptation atlas.
